With profound sadness we announce the passing of Bruce Nelson Garwood, age 83. On December 25, 2021, Bruce peacefully left this world in his son’s arms. He was born April 27, 1938 in Des Moines, IA to Richard and Phillis Garwood (Doviddio), and was happily married to Joyce Garwood for 45 years.
Bruce was a wonderful husband and father, and a beloved friend to everyone he came into contact with. He was quick to listen, fun to be around, and gave the best hugs.
He retired from Veenstra and Kimm and remained active. He was a long-standing member of the Izaak Walton League and participated in conservation efforts and community outreach. Nearly every photo of him involves hunting, fishing, or camping with his closest friends and family. He was an outdoorsman through and through.
Bruce is survived by his son Richard Garwood, stepson Steven Cross, grandson Jacob Cross (Jennifer), and two great granddaughters. He is also survived by several cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends whom he loved dearly and are too numerous to list. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce.
We welcome all to celebrate his life on Friday, January 7th from 5-7pm for a visitation. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 8th at 2:30pm. Both will be held at Merle Hay Funeral Home, 4400 Merle Hay Rd, Des Moines, IA 50310.
