Daniel Ruble passed away on Thursday, September 23, 2021. He was born on December 23, 1934 to Verl Ruble and Eva Cackler Ruble in Chariton, Iowa. Dan lived in Chariton and Woodburn until he moved to Corydon, Iowa in 1938. Dan graduated from Wayne High School in 1953. In 1954, he moved to Des Moines, Iowa and worked for Meadow Gold Ice Cream. He served in the U.S. Army from June 1957 until May 1959. He was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas and Germany.
Dan married Joanne Morrell in July of 1960 and had three sons: John, Rodney, and Mark. Dan enjoyed several hobbies including gardening, photography, sports, and all kinds of racing. He attended his first Indy 500 race in 1963 and his first Daytona 500 race in 1967. Until the last several years, Dan had attended Knoxville Races every year except 1958 when he was in Germany serving his country.
Family honoring Dan’s memory are three sons: John (Linda) Ruble, Rodney Ruble (Michelle Carlson), and Mark (Carla) Ruble; his five grandchildren: Anna Ruble, Cady Kilmer, Anderson Ruble, Cailey Ruble, and Peyton Ruble; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne Ruble; his father, Verl Ruble; his mother, Eva Cackler Ruble; and his brothers: Ronald, Darl, and Leo Ruble.
Dan’s family will greet friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 29 at Merle Hay Funeral Home with his funeral beginning at 2. He will be interred at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
