Earl Raymond Gallo

Updated: Dec 10, 2021

Earl R. Gallo peacefully passed away on December 7, 2021, with his wife by his side. Earl was born on September 13, 1930, to Helen (Mihok) and Andrew Gallo in Elyria, Ohio, where he also lived his youth.

He proudly served in the US Army and was stationed in Europe. He met his wife, Suzanne, while in France and was married in Paris on August 21, 1954. They moved to the US where he worked for General Electric Company until he retired. Together they had one daughter, Lori.

Earl loved to travel and visited many countries around the world. He had a great appreciation for different cultures, food, architecture, and landscapes while making friends along the way. We spent much time with him sharing pictures and all his experiences. When he wasn’t traveling, he enjoyed music and building and flying R/C airplanes, and belonged to the Modulaire's Club of Iowa. He also loved to fly small planes and took several hours of piloting lessons. Earl was a member of the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine in Altoona and was part of the Tux Brigade. He faithfully served with the Shrine Circus, fundraisers for the Shrine Children’s Hospital, and drove the golf carts at the Iowa State Fair.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Andrew, and sister Annette. Left to honor and cherish his memory are his wife Suzanne Gallo, his daughter Lori Pilcher (Ted), Granddaughters Geena Plunkett (Kyle), Madisen Hall (Josh); and Great Granddaughter Blair.

Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. Friday, December 10, 2021, at First Baptist Church, 8250 NW 62nd Avenue in Johnston followed by the funeral service at 4:00. A private burial for the family will be held at Merle Hay Funeral Home on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution can be made to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.
