Francine Ruth Jackman, born to Edmond and Mildred Flattery in Albia, IA, on August 25, 1940, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2024, after a lengthy illness. After completing high school, she moved to Des Moines, where she built a life filled with love, dedication, and service.
On May 30th, 1964, she married the love of her life, Phillip D. Jackman, and together they were blessed with three children: Regina (David) Anderson, Steve (Heidi) Jackman, and Jane (Jason) Stewart. Her family expanded to include four cherished grandchildren: Mackenzie Anderson, Jack Anderson, Timber Stewart, and Nora Jackman.
Francine dedicated over 50 years to serving her community, starting with John Hancock Insurance, and later embarking on a remarkable 40-year career at the Des Moines Schools. Her journey included roles at Franklin Junior High, Cowles Elementary, and Hoover High School, where she served as a secretary and later as the Registrar. She retired in June 2018, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and warmth.
In addition to her professional endeavors, Francine also worked part-time at Younkers department store for over 20 years, further demonstrating her strong work ethic and commitment.
However, her true passion in life was her family. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Francine's love knew no bounds. Her family fondly remembers her as a loving, strong, and proud woman, always expressing her affection with the words, "I love you more." Her capacity for love seemed endless, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those she touched.
Francine was preceded in death by her parents, Edmond and Mildred Flattery, and siblings Edmond Flattery Jr, John Flattery, and Mary Sciorrotta.
Survivors include her husband, Phillip Jackman, son Steve (Heidi) Jackman, daughters Regina (David) Anderson and Jane (Jason) Stewart, grandchildren Mackenzie and Jack Anderson, Timber Stewart, and Nora Jackman. She is also survived by her sister, Millie Durbala, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be held at Merle Hay Funeral Chapel on Friday, January 19th, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM. There will be a private burial at a later date.
