Gail Charlotte Walker, a loving mother, respected leader, and compassionate soul, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2025, in Des Moines, Iowa. She was born on November 2, 1938, in Paradise, Michigan, to Francis and Mildred Monk. Gail lived a life of strength, grace, and unwavering faith, and her legacy will forever be cherished by all who knew her.
Gail was a devoted mother who always made time for her family and approached life with a positive attitude, never complaining despite the challenges she faced. She was the epitome of a fighter—courageous, persistent, and determined, especially as a 4-time cancer survivor. She was deeply rooted in her faith, an obedient servant to the Lord, and loved her Bible, Jesus, and her family above all else.
Throughout her life, Gail was a dedicated professional, making a significant impact in the insurance industry. She worked for Alpac in Arkansas, SafeCo in Boise and Spokane, and EMC Insurance in Des Moines, where she managed and led the claims department before her retirement. Gail continued to work well into her 70s, a testament to her passion and commitment. Throughout her career, she earned multiple degrees in insurance and was highly respected and admired for her leadership and expertise.
Gail's generosity extended beyond her family and work. She gave herself to the church and numerous charities, always finding joy in helping others. Her kindness and selflessness reflected her deep love for people and her commitment to making the world a better place.
She is survived by her children: Dean Jones, Kurt Jones, Dennis Barden, Brian Walker, and Brenda Johnson; daughters-in-law: April Ewing and Shae Miller; grandchildren: Shannon and Zachary Barden, Oliver and Abraham Barden, and Dillon Johnson; as well as her great-grandson, Hayes Barden. Gail was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Francis M. Walker; sons Mark Jones and Robert Barden III; and her parents, Francis and Mildred Monk.
A visitation will be held Monday, March 17 at Merle Hay Chapel, 4400 Merle Hay Road, Des Moines, IA starting at noon with a memorial service following at 1:00 p.m. A gathering will be held at Arbordale Senior Living, 2727 82nd Place, Urbandale, IA 50322 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM following the services.
Gail’s legacy of love, faith, and kindness will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be dearly missed, but her spirit will forever remain with us.
