George Marvin Richards, 86, of Des Moines passed away on November 21, 2022 at home. George was born on July 3, 1936 to his parents James Marvin and Pauline Ruth Richards in Clarion, Iowa. George and Joyce were blessed with 3 daughters; Linda, Diane and Cindy.
George was a very creative man, he especially loved to paint and enjoyed creating and building crafty things. He was an amazing cook, and a great handyman who could fix almost everything.
George was a part of the United States Army and Air Force. He served active duty in the Army for a little over 3 years as a Private Specialist 3rd Class, that ended with a good conduct medal in 1957. He then joined the Air Force in May of 1958 and served active duty for about 2 years as an Aircraft Mechanic Airman Second Class ending with a good conduct medal and Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon in January of 1960.
Left to cherish George’s memory are his daughter Linda Agan (Tom Norris), daughter Diane Wagner, daughter Cindy Fleagle, only surviving sister Bonnie Messerly, granddaughter Sara Flesch (Rafael) and their children Spencer and Nora, granddaughter Abbie Agan-Laws (Chris) and their children Rhylan, Ayden, Taylen and Calysta, grandson Blayne Agan, grandson Jason Kusel, grandson Brandon Kusel (Deb) and their child Kadience, granddaughter Grace Crabb. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Sharon Ayersman, sister Shirley Leonard, sister Joan Lavine, girlfriend Katie Lamotta, son-law-law Bruce Agan, and grandson Brad Agan.
On Tuesday, November 29 at 9:30am, George will be laid to rest at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery. Family requests no flowers or donations be made.
