Gerald Donald Flesch passed away peacefully in Des Moines on March 31st at the age of 91. He was preceded in death by his wife Nancy, the love of his life whom he met while dancing. They were married for 61 wonderful years, and raised their four children in Ames, where Gerald contributed to the development of mass spectrometry at the Ames Laboratory on the Iowa State University campus. Their children and grandchildren were their pride and joy.
Gerald is very well loved and survived by his four children: Thomas (Sheilah) of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; Todd (Pamela) of Urbandale; Kelly (Thomas) of Urbandale; and Tracy (Anna) of Huntsville, Alabama, and by his nine grandchildren: Sarah, Samuel and Joseph Flesch; Michael and Jessica Flesch (fiancé’ Mason Anderson); Emma (Jacob) Losch and Allyson Goldsmith; and Sydney (Carson) Smith and Katie Flesch. Gerald welcomed his first great grandchild in 2023, Kallie Losch. He is also survived by Nancy’s brother and sister-in- law, Daniel (Mary Lou) Bockert of St Louis, Missouri. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Emma Flesch and his nine siblings.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 19, 2024, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 1230 Merle Hay Rd, Des Moines, IA 50311, visitation will be an hour before the funeral mass at St. Theresa Catholic Church.
