We are sad to announce that Gerhard Gensch, 72, of Windsor Heights, Iowa passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2023, surrounded by family.
Gerhard (Gary) Gensch was born on 10 July 1951 in Werder, Germany. The family immigrated to the US in 1956. He graduated from Urbandale high school in 1968 and soon enlisted in the Air Force where he became an aircraft mechanic. He served in Vietnam and Korea. His mechanical aptitude and analytical skills were off the charts enabling aircraft to return to service much sooner than expected. This ability served him well throughout his life, in being able to fix just about anything. While in the service, he married Donna and had two children, Leann & Gery. He also attended several technical schools before going to work for the Bulk Mail Center in Urbandale, from which he eventually retired. Gerhard was easily able to make friends wherever he went. He loved to laugh and make others laugh. He was a thoughtful and positive husband, father, and brother with a great sense of humor who will be missed by all who knew him. Gerhard was preceded by his parents Fritz & Carmen, brother Wolfram, sister Carmen, brother Hans.
He is survived by daughter Leann & her husband Ben, grandchildren Ava and Will, son Gery, sister Ingeborg, brother Burkhard & his wife Jan, nieces, nephews, & great nieces and nephews. Gerhard was loved and will be greatly missed. We want to say Thank You and let you know how much we appreciate all of your love and support. A visitation will be held at Merle Hay Funeral Home on Thursday, November 30, 2023, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.
A private burial for family to be held at a later date.
