Giot LoThi was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, and beloved friend. She passed peacefully in the comfort of her home on January 25, 2024, at the age of 95.
Giot LoThi was born July 28, 1928, in Son La, Vietnam to Sang Lovan and Hao LoThi. She married and moved to Hanoi, Vietnam with her late husband, E Lovan in 1946. In 1956, they moved from Vietnam to Vientiane, Laos where they raised their seven children: Sara Baccam (Sam), Youa Lovan (Seng), Marc Lovan (Phatsone), Phoung Lovan, Phui Lovan, Phin Vivanh (Souk), and Phic Lovan (Aimee). On January 17, 1980, they immigrated to Des Moines, IA to provide a better life for their children’s future families.
Giot enjoyed playing cards with her close friends and spending countless hours gardening and sewing garments. She cherished quality time with her loved ones, and graciously provided and cared for her family, including her 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was instrumental to the family, demonstrating care and compassion.
She was an extraordinary woman, full of kindness, wisdom, and strength. She will be missed deeply and remembered for her warm, generous heart and a life full of love.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at Merle Hay Chapel, 4400 Merle Hay Road, Des Moines, Iowa 50310.
