Jeannine Cavanaugh Schulze died peacefully at home on her 91st birthday on February 12, 2023. She was a lifelong Des Moines resident and was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Dr. Robert R. Schulze, a well-known dermatologist in Des Moines.
Jeannine was a graduate of the 1950 class at East High where she forged friendships that stretched many decades. She was past President of the Iowa Medical Auxiliary, President of Iowa Toastmasters, and a member of the American Cancer Society’s Speakers Bureau. It was in this capacity that Jeannine, a breast cancer survivor, touched many lives by sharing her personal journey. She was a foot soldier in the war against cancer and a champion of early detection.
Jeannine had a wonderful sense of humor, and was fortunate enough to travel the globe with her husband. She also loved reading, spending time with her dogs, and was a master bridge player.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Vivian Cavanaugh; sister, Garnet Crowe; and her loving husband, Robert Schulze, MD.
Jeannine is survived by her brothers, William (Diana) and James (Kendra); three children, Robert (Kim-Marie), Ruth Ann (Michael), and Greg (Denise); and her adored six granddaughters, one grandson, and four great-grandchildren.
There will be a private ceremony for immediate family, followed by a celebration of life to be held later this summer for her many friends and extended family to attend.
It was her wish that any memorial contributions go to the Animal Rescue League, https://www.arl-iowa.org/
