Jimmy Ray Brown was born November 16, 1954, in Omaha, Nebraska. He passed away at his home in New Virginia, Iowa on September 20, 2021, surrounded by family.
Jimmy served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and had a long career as a Union Iron Worker. He enjoyed life on the farm and raising cattle. He was an avid hunter, trapper and racoon hunter with his jumping mule. He loved riding around the state on his Harley Motorcycle and reading cowboy books.
After he lost his leg, he started competing in the VA Golden Age Games. For the next six years, he traveled to Alaska, Wisconsin, New Mexico, Mississippi and Nebraska. Jimmy earned numerous gold and silver metals.
Jimmy was proceeded in death by his father; Melvin Brown and mother; Edna Brown.
Jimmy will be remembered and missed by his son; Jeremiah Brown (Melissa), grandchildren; Taylor and Blake, brother; Larry Brown (Susan), sisters; Joan Collins (Mike), Julie Cameron and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 28, 2021, at the Veterans Reception Center, 910 Main Street, Van Meter, IA. Interment will follow at 11:00 at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, 34024 Veterans Memorial Dr, Adel, IA 50003.
