Katherine Ann Ward, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2025, at Southern Hills Specialty Care in Osceola, Iowa, at the age of 78. Born on April 25, 1946, in Perry, Iowa, to George and Helen Evans, she was a woman full of warmth and creativity.
Katherine was a passionate crafter, with a particular love for quilting and coloring. Her artistic talents brought joy to her family and friends, and she was always eager to stay busy. She loved dancing the 2-step, a reflection of her zest for life. Alongside her full-time career, Katherine took on many part-time jobs, including a role at a local gift store, always ready to lend a hand and stay engaged with her community.
Katherine’s love for her family was immense. She is survived by her daughter, Missy Garcia; her son, Steve Ward; and her three granddaughters, Callie Garcia, Kayla Ward, and Livvy Ward. She also leaves behind her special friend, Denny Dieleman, who brought her great joy. Katherine was preceded in death by her parents, George and Helen Evans, and her sister, Sandy Bradshaw.
A funeral service will be held in her honor on February 18th, at 1:00 PM at Merle Hay Funeral Home, located at 4400 Merle Hay Road, Des Moines, IA 50310. The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Southern Hills Specialty Care for their exceptional care and kindness during Katherine’s final days.
