Larry Charles Jones, 72, of Des Moines, formerly of Manson, died Sunday, May 23, 2021 at his home in Des Moines.
Larry was born December 22, 1948 in Fort Dodge. He attended Manson High School where he participated in football, track, music and band. After graduating in 1967, he attended Fort Dodge Community College until he enlisted in the Army where he served in Germany. Upon returning home, he worked as a house painter and in construction until joining the US Post Office as a mail handler and later custodian. He was transferred from Fort Dodge to Des Moines where he worked until his retirement at age 70.
Larry is survived by his son Josh (Alycia) and two granddaughters, Chloe and Nora of Ankeny, sister Janice Jones Loving and brother Bruce "Jeter" Jones both of Manson. He was preceded in death by his parents Erwin and Lillian (Hyde) Jones and brother Stanley Ray Jones.
Being an avid Iowa State fan, he attended many games. He also enjoyed bicycling and rode in RAGBRAI, loved to hunt and fish at Lake Okoboji. In his final retirement years he enjoyed planting flowers and tomato plants, football season, home cooked meals from his daughter in-law, and taking care of his 2 dogs (Muffy and Daisy).
