Luther James “Bud” Thompson went home to be with the Lord on June 13, 2021. He died peacefully at Valley View Village.
He was born on August 4, 1924, to John and Alice Thompson. He served in WWII in the Navy. On November 19, 1946, he married Florence (Dillinger) and out of this marriage came 9 children.
He worked as a carpenter for Local 106 for 30 years, then went to work for the post office and retired in 1989.
He enjoyed fishing, camping, playing pool, dancing, and watching Nascar racing. He really was a family man; his family was the most important thing to him. He was loved by all who met him, he was a loving happy and fun person.
His is survived by his children, Gloria Jean Patterson, James (Donna) Thompson, JoAn (Steve) McLeod, Joyce (Ron) Fox, Joseph (Terri) Thompson, Jeff (Kim) Thompson, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, too numerous to count. When we last counted the family was up to 70. He is also survived by his siblings, Ken (Fran) Thompson, Connie (Dennis) Travis.
He is preceded in death by his wife Florence, sons, Jerald Thompson, Jack Thompson, and John Thompson. His brothers, Leroy Thompson, Richard Thompson, Robert Thompson, Ted Thompson, Leonard Thompson, Harold Thompson, sisters, Betty Armstrong, June Saunders and Pat Wiand, and his parents John Thompson and Alice Sprague.
A private Family Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 18. 2021 at Merle Hay Funeral Home, 4400 Merle Hay Road, Des Moines Iowa 50310.
