Marilyn Lavon “Suz”, “Mac”, “Mud”, Cunningham, 84, of Urbandale, Iowa passed away on August 5, 2021, at Senior Suites in Urbandale, Iowa.
Marilyn Lavon Polson was born on June 8, 1937, in Prescott, Iowa. She was the daughter of Forest and Lela (Reed) Polson. Marilyn graduated from Prescott High School in 1954. On June 19, 1955, Marilyn was united in marriage to Jerry Allen Cunningham at the Family Home in Prescott. Jake and Marilyn were blessed with two daughters, Jeri and Kelly. The family lived in Des Moines, Minneapolis, Chicago and settled back in Urbandale in 1967. Marilyn worked at Bankers Life, Sears for 27 years and for the Des Moines Convention Bureau. She was a member of Meredith Drive Reformed Church. Grandma Mac loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed collecting angels, playing bridge, bowling, the Hawkeyes, flowers, and a glass of wine (or two). Marilyn was a loyal friend to many and a stranger to no one. She lived and loved fiercely.
Left to cherish many memories are her husband of 66 years, Jerry “Jake” Cunningham, daughters, Jeri (Doug) Gotto of Grimes and Kelly (Dean) Looney of Dallas, Texas, grandchildren, Zach (Stephanie) Gates of West Des Moines, and Brianna (Nick) Long of Urbandale, great-grandchildren, Noah and Kenley Gates and Hayden and William Long, her brother, Lyle (Marlys) Polson and countless other relatives and friends.
In death she rejoins her parents, Forest and Lela Polson, sisters, Ilene Johnston, Dolores Holste, and brothers, Max Polson, and Glen Polson.
Visitation will be on Monday, August 9, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Merle Hay Funeral Home, 4400 Merle Hay Road, Des Moines, Iowa 50310. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at Meredith Drive Reformed Church, 5128 Meredith Drive, Des Moines, Iowa 50310.
