Marjorie Stevens


Marjorie Louise Fayer Stevens was born to Edward and Mary Louise Collins Fayer on December 28, 1934 on the family farm located west of Montezuma, Iowa. She passed away on May 20, 2022. A visitation will be held at Merle Hay Funeral Home on Thursday, May 26, 2022 from 9 to 11 AM. A service will follow at 11, with burial at Chapel Hill Gardens.


Marjorie grew up on the family farm and attended a one room country school (Union Township #6) graduating on May 26, 1945. She attended Montezuma High School and graduated on May 23, 1952. After graduation, she worked at the Poweshiek County Home before moving to Des Moines.


Marjorie married Glenn Martin Stevens on April 3, 1954. To this union three sons were born: John Edward Stevens, Donald Ray Stevens and Michael Laverne Stevens.


Marjorie’s life centered around her family. She was a stay-at-home mom until her children had graduated high school. Their home became the community gathering place for all the neighborhood children. Sports were being played in their yard almost every afternoon once school was dismissed. Most weekends she could be found watching the boys play team sports such as football, baseball and basketball.


After the children were grown, Marjorie went back to work and had a seventeen-year career as a pharmacy technician at Walgreen’s Pharmacies.


Marjorie was a member of the Grandview Church of Christ in Des Moines and attended services regularly until her health would no longer permit.


Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband (Glenn Stevens), a son (John Stevens), her parents (Edward and Louise Collins Fayer), two sisters (June Sheets and Dorothy Talbert), two brothers (Frank Fayer and Kenneth Fayer) and a half-brother (Harold Tish).


Marjorie leaves behind to mourn her passing two sons: Donald (Vicki) and Mike Stevens, four grandchildren: (Debra, Randall, Breanne and Travis Stevens), a brother: Larry (Carol) Fayer many nieces and nephews, other family members and many friends.
