Mary Ann Barakat, 73, of Des Moines died March 10, 2024, at Bishop Drumm Care Facility. She was born July 30, 1950, to Edward Samuel and Mary Lee (nee Neuhart) Barakat in Omaha, NE. She spent her childhood in Des Moines and Burlington, IA. She graduated from Burlington High School, class of 1968. She attended the University of Iowa and was a lifelong Hawkeye fan. She was also a lifelong Cubs fan. She retired from American Republic Insurance Company in Des Moines.
Cremation rites have been accorded and a celebration of her life will be held at 10:00 a.m. March 15, 2024, at Merle Hay Funeral Home. The visitation will be half an hour before the service.
She is survived by several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to an education fund for Kariana and Madison Peterson, checks may be made out to Ameriprise Financial; or in honor of Mary Ann to the American Diabetes Association.
