Mary Bingaman

Mary Diana Bingaman passed away peacefully at home on July 9th after a valiant battle with heart disease, cancer and dementia.


She was born on Dec. 28, 1948 in Des Moines to Dean and Stella Bingaman. She was raised in Des Moines and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1967. She attended Grand View College and worked for the State of Iowa for over 35 years.


Whenever Mary entered a room her smile lit it up. She had a great sense of humor and her laughter was infectious. She loved animals especially Cavalier King Charles dogs and cats. She was a great artist and enjoyed all types of crafts. Mary was a proud member of the Abigail Adams and Henry Knox Chapters of the DAR and of the Des Moines Women’s Club.

Finally, Mary loved travel. In retirement she traveled to St. Simon’s Island, Georgia for winters. She also traveled to Scotland, England and Morocco with her sister, Sheila.


She is survived by her mother, Sisters Connie (Warren) Dobbertin and Sheila (Charles Perkins) Bingaman, Nephews Michael (Shawna) Dobbertin and Matthew (Brandi) Dobbertin and seven great nephews/nieces.


She was preceded in death by her father, Dean, and Brother-in-law Charles Perkins.

Mary’s remains will be cremated. A short graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, July 29th at the Chapel Hill Gardens Cemetery at 4400 Merle Hay Road in Des Moines. Friends and family are invited to a reception at Mary and Sheila’s home in Indianola at noon on the 29th.
