Phillip Donald Jackman

Phillip Donald Jackman, age 81, of Johnston, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at the Kavanaugh House. Born on December 28, 1942, in Des Moines to parents Dorothy and Lyle Jackman.  Phil was one of eight children and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1960. Known as Buddy until after high school.

Phillip married Francine Flattery on May 30th, 1962, and they raised their three children, together in Des Moines before moving to Johnston in 2004. He began selling insurance as a young man but found that auto body work is what he was meant to do. After being mentored at the Auto Collision trade, Phil opened Jackman Body Shop. After closing his body shop, he continued to work in the industry until the 1990s. He took pride in the work he did and was known to be one of the best in the business.

Phil loved to spend time with his family, friends and his dogs. His hobbies were golfing, fishing, hunting, and playing cards. After a stroke in 1998 he couldn’t enjoy these hobbies as much but would love to talk about each of them to anyone who wanted to listen. Dogs brought him so much joy, whether going to the park to play or just getting to have them near him. He was a avid fan of Caitlyn Clark and loved watching the Iowa Hawkeyes and Indiana Fever.

Phillip is survived by his three children. Regina Anderson (David) of Ames, Steven Jackman (Heidi) of Johnston and Jane Stewart (Jason) of Ankeny. Four amazing grandchildren that had his heart, Mackenzie Anderson, Jack Anderson, Timber Stewart and Nora Jackman. Also, one sister, Mary Jackman and many nieces and nephews. Phillip was proceeded in death earlier this year by his wife, Francine, and his parents and six siblings: Dale Jackman, Fay Jackman, Ed Jackman, Gerald Jackman, Charles Jackman and Lola McKnight.

There will be a Celebration of Life reception at the Merle Hay Funeral home on Wednesday, October 2nd from 4:00 to 6:00pm. Please join the family to share memories and visit while honoring Phillip.

“Crazy Papa” will be missed by so many with his passing. We will miss his love, laugh, stories and company but we will carry our memories with us. He is now reunited with his “Fran” that he missed desperately.
