Ronald Main

Ronald “Ron” Eugene Main of Grimes, Iowa passed away peacefully at Mercy One Hospice in Johnston on June 5, 2021 after a short battle with Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD).


Ron was born on July 24, 1946 in Liberty, Missouri to father Jack L. and mother Irene (Robbins) Main. Ron was the middle of seven children. He graduated from Johnston High School in 1965 after which he entered the drywall trade. Later, he began a career at Ryko Manufacturing in Grimes until his retirement in 2008.


Ron was a sports fan through and through, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs. He never missed any of his two children’s or two grandsons’ sporting events. Additionally, he was an antique car enthusiast. He owned a number of antique cars which he enjoyed taking to car shows with his group of “car buddies”.


Ron is remembered by his wife of fifty years, Ann Main; son Shawn Main; daughter Shannon (Erik) Hogue; grandsons Payton and Ethan Main; sister Lavenia Carr and many, many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.


Ron was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Jack (J.D.), Bill, Perry, Archie and Gary.


Visitation will be held from 1:00 – 2:00PM on Friday, June 11 at Merle Hay Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2:00PM.


Memorial contributions may be made to Mercy One Johnston Hospice Care in loving memory of Ron.
