Ruby Gehrke passed away peacefully at home on February 21, 2025, in Urbandale, Iowa, surrounded by her family. She was born on August 18, 1932, in Kannapolis, North Carolina, to Lois Virginia (Myers) Clanton and Steven Arvil Clanton.
Ruby married Robert John Gehrke on August 20, 1955, and together they raised a family filled with love and cherished memories. Ruby was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, known for her deep affection for her family and the time she spent with them.
She was a dedicated registered nurse, having graduated from nursing school in August 1955. After 42 years of service, Ruby retired in November 1997, leaving a legacy of compassion and care.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Ruby enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including reading, gardening, knitting, collecting antiques, and listening to Willie Nelson CDs. She had a keen eye for beauty and a heart full of warmth, which she shared with everyone she met.
Ruby is survived by her children Anne Gehrke, Robert Gehrke, and John Gehrke, as well as her beloved grandson, Nicholas John Dingeman, and her three great-grandchildren, Lainna Shea Dingeman, Colton Robert Dingeman, and Lydia Avery Dingeman—her pride and joy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, in 2010, her son, David, in 1988, and her parents.
Ruby’s memory will forever be cherished by her family and all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
