Ruth Mae Sellner, 92, went to be with the Lord on November 5, 2021. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 12, 2021 at Valley Evangelical Free Church, 4343 Fuller Road, West Des Moines, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m.
Ruth was born July 8, 1929 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Dr. Emmett and Nellie Edwards Schaeffer. She grew up in Des Moines, Iowa and graduated from Roosevelt High School, class of 1947. Her first job was with Farmers Mutual Hail Insurance Company. In October 1948, she married the love of her life, Wayne Sellner. After Wayne founded American Marking, Inc. in 1958, Ruth became the Secretary-Treasurer of their company and retired in 1988. After moving full time to Lake Panorama, she became an active member of the Panora Church of the Brethren. Ruth cherished all the time she spent with her family and friends, traveling with Wayne, and enjoyed golf and tennis, playing bridge and crafting. After moving back to West Des Moines, she became an active member of Valley Church, where she had many friends and mentors.
She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 65 years; her mother and father and sister, Jean Cochran. Surviving are her two loving sons, Dennis and Doug (Peggy); former daughter-in-law Luanne; grandchildren: Kyle (Mariel), Jessica, Drew (Nikki), Casey and Kenzie (Wayne); and seven great-grandchildren: Cody and Mason, Aubrey and Kinley, Sirwayne Jr., Zaya, and Tiger. Also, three nieces: Nancy Welton, Nina Cochran, and Nada (Jim) Beck.
