Sandra Nau

Updated: May 7

Sandra K. Nau, 81, currently from West Des Moines passed away Tuesday, April 30th.  She graduated from North High School in 1961 where she served as Home Room Treasurer, Girls Glee Club, Cheerleading, Intramurals, and Pep Club. Sandra worked most of her career at Pioneer Hi-Bred as a telecommunications analyst. She developed many great relationships over her long career.

Sandra met her future husband, John Nau, at Riverview Park in 1957.  They were married on July 8, 1960. They had a wonderful 58-year marriage before the love of her life passed away in 2018.   John and Sandra eventually had two children Todd and Sheryl.

Sandra loved shopping and sportscars.  She drove a 1999 bright red Mitsubishi 3000GT, which was her pride and joy.  She enjoyed boating and loved the freedom of riding their Harley. She cherished her kids and was so proud of all their accomplishments.

She became a grandma for the first time in 1988 and beamed with pride.  The grandma title fit her well.  She doted on those babies at every chance she had.  She ended up with four grandkids that could do no wrong in her eyes.  She spoiled her kids, but she spoiled her grandkids even more.  Whatever they wanted, she would find a way to get it.  She loved attending their many programs and sporting events.  She attended every soccer, softball, baseball, volleyball, and football game that they participated in.  Her eyes would light up any time she heard their voices.   As if being grandma wasn’t good enough, she was promoted to great grandma in 2013!  She loved those babies with all her heart.  She attended all their events as well.

Everyone knew where they stood with Sandra.  You didn’t have to guess because she made it abundantly clear.  She’s stubborn, but also the most genuine, honest, caring, and dependable person.  She modeled compassion and kindness to her family and will be remembered for her blue eyes, big smile, and genuine love and concern for them.

She will be terribly missed by her son Todd Nau (Scott Dolphin), her daughter Sheryl (Andy) Bartleman, grandson Austen (Sarah) Hassebrock, granddaughter Holly Hassebrock, grandson Manuel Dolphin-Nau, granddaughter Lydia Dolphin-Nau, great grandson Milo Hassebrock, great granddaughter Hazel Hassebrock. She also had amazing friends and family who will miss her presence.

Sandra was preceded in death by her husband, John Nau, her mother, Maxine McDivitt Evans Huser, her father, Robert Evans, and stepfather, Rudy Huser.

Funeral services will be held at Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Pkwy, West Des Moines, Iowa 50266 on Wednesday, May 8th at 11:00.  The family will be available for visitation at 10:00 preceding the ceremony.  Immediately after the service, the family invites friends to join them for a time of refreshment and fellowship at the church.  Interment will be at Merle Hay Cemetery around 1:30 PM

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family who will share with several charities close to her heart.
