Socorro "Coco" Aguayo-Castro

María Socorro, también conocida como “Mama Coco” o “Coco”, nació el 9 de julio del 1947 en Techaluta, Jalisco y fue llamada a la casa del Padre el 8 de abril del 2025 en Des Moines, Iowa. Coco fue una madre amorosa. A los 30 años, quedo viuda y nunca volvió a casarse, eligiendo en cambio dedicar su corazón y alma a criar a sus 6 hijos con una fuerza y gracia inquebrantables. Su vida fue un verdadero testimonio de resistencia: trabajadora, dedicada, y con una voluntad firme, enfrentó cada desafío con valentía, sin perder nunca de vista a la familia que tanto amaba. Con el tiempo, su legado ha florecido en 22 nietos y 16 bisnietos, cada uno reflejo del amor, los valores, y la determinación que ella sembró. Su fuerza fué silenciosa pero inquebrantable, del tipo que construye generaciones y deja una huella imborrable en cada vida que toca.  

A Coco le sobreviven sus cinco hijos: Emilio, Santos, Ana, Ernesto, y Jaime, y le precede en muerte su esposo Santos Villareal y su hija Anita. La familia ha organizado un velorio para Coco el cual se dará a cabo el viernes 11 de abril de 5-8pm en la funeraria Merle Hay, y al siguiente día (sábado) se celebrará una Misa de Cristiana sepultura a las 12:30pm en la Iglesia Católica San Anthony.  

Maria Socorro, better known as “Mama Coco” or “Coco” by her loved ones, was born on July 9, 1947, in Techaluta, Jalisco and was called to the father’s house on April 8, 2025, in Des Moines, Iowa. Coco was a loving, single mother of six, widowed at just 30, who never got married again, choosing instead to pour her heart and soul into raising her children with unwavering strength and grace. Her life was a testament to resilience—hardworking, strong-willed, and fiercely determined, she faced every challenge head-on, never losing sight of the family she held so dear. Over the years, her legacy has blossomed into 22 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, each one a reflection of the love, values, and determination she instilled. Her strength was quiet but unshakable, the kind that builds generations and leaves an indelible mark on every life she touched.

Coco is survived by 5 of her children: Emilio, Santos, Ana, Ernesto, and Jaime, and is preceded in death by her husband Santos Villareal and her little daughter Anita.

The family has organized a visitation for Coco which will take place on Friday, April 11, 2025, from 5-8 pm at Merle Hay Funeral Home, 4400 Merle Hay Road, Des Moines, IA. Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, April 12 at 12:30 pm at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 15 Indianola, Road, Des Moines, IA.
