Vernon D. Daniels, Sr., 86, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, August 14, 2021. A visitation will be held in his honor at the Merle Hay Funeral Home Chapel, 4400 Merle Hay Rd Des Moines, from 4 to 7 pm on Friday, August 20th. A celebration of life will be held at 11 am on Saturday the 21st, also at the chapel. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the Sunset Memorial Gardens cemetery.
Vernon has been a longtime employee of the VA Medical Center in Des Moines. He was also a Veteran himself, having served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Family was important to Vernon and Janis, and they loved spending time with loved ones. In his spare moments, Vernon enjoyed the tranquility of fishing.
Vernon was preceded in death by his mother, father and sister, Helen Scott.
His memory is cherished by his wife Janis of Des Moines, four sons, Vernon, Jr. (Jenny) of Las Vegas, Vincent (Martha) of Locust Grove, GA, Victor of Dulles, VA, Vaughn of Littleton, CO, fifteen grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
Memorial may be directed to Disabled Veterans of America which Vernon was passionate about supporting.
